Gerson Medina

Gerson was born and raised on Tambopata River near Puerto Maldonado. After studying ecotourism, and working for Rainforest Expeditions for six years as a bird watching specialist and adventure guide, he decided to organize his own tours and expeditions for backpackers and budget travelers. Gerson is the owner of Tambopata Hostel, but continues to guide fishing, bird watching, and adventure trips. He has a passion for organizing and guiding longer, personalized excursions deep into the jungle. His expertise and love for the rainforest have translated into a gleaming recommendation by Lonely Planet in the Lonely Planet Peru guidebook as one of the best jungle guides.

All of the guides that work with Gerson are official licensed guides, bilingual in English and Spanish, but even more than that, we consider the guides of Tambopata Hostel to be the best that the Rainforest has to offer. Unlike other companies which have a high turnover rate and frequently hire external guides, the following guides have worked alongside Gerson for years. While they all have extensive knowledge of rainforest flora and fauna, it is their unique personalities and strong points which set them above the rest.
