4 DAYS TOUR CHUNCHO MACAW CLAY LICK – FULL DAY SANDOVAL LAKE

Day 1 Welcome to the jungle!

  • Arrive in Puerto Maldonado, capital of Madre de Dios, and join a 2-hour bus/car and a 1/2 boat journey up the Tambopata River to the lodge. A local welcome drink and a short friefing about the lodge will be served.
  • Collpas Tambopata Inn awaits – a spacious friendy eco-lodge, with bar, a swimming pool, and buffet service in the limit of National Reserve of Tambopata, being the fartest lodge from Puerto Maldonado surrounded by monkeys and several bird species.
  • Accommodation includes rooms from 28mts to 72 mts suites with a private bathroom and a huge window facing the forest.
  • Your stay includes three meals daily, teas, coffee, fruits, guided excursions and activities, refreshments upon arriving, and transfers to and from the airport. We assign guides on private small groups of 10:1
  • You will go for an introductory walk with most inportant information about the protected area and its flora and fauna . Good chances to see monkeys and different bird species .
  • Night walk into the forest to look for some of the nocturnal creatures.
  • Overnight at Collpas Tambopata Inn (L, D).

DAY 2: Join a party at Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick.

  • Chuncho is the best for Parrots & Macaws! On most clear mornings of the year, dozens of large macaws and hundreds of parrots congregate on this large river bank in a raucous and colorful spectacle that inspired a National Geographic cover story. Discretely located fifty meters from the cliff, we will observe Green-winged, Scarlet, and Blue-and-gold Macaws and several species of smaller parrots descend to ingest clay. Outings are at dawn when the lick is most active.
  • We will propose to go for an adventure, we will go for Kayaking in the river or the stream depending on your expectation, is a nice activity also with big chances to see Capibaras, turttles and river birds during this afternoon activity.
  • In the night we will go on night walk to understand rainforest ecosystems and see some of the amazing trees, many insects, colorful frogs, maybe snakes, spiders, tarantulas and many other animals active in the night, this activity is very safe and great opportunity for macro photos.
    Return to the lodge for dinner. Sleep at Collpas Tambopata Inn (B, L, D)

Day 3:  TRC The Largest Macaw Clay clik!

  • To see more the Best of Tambopata Sandoval Lake and clay lick. We will wake up early in the morning and take 2 hoursboat ride to observe the Largest macaw clay lick spot, it will be probably different than Chuncho because the number of species of birds is much more here than anywhere else, in a good morning we can count 13 different birds eating clay at the same time, the best of Tambopata We will get our breakfast in our camping site .
  • After  the Macaw Clay lick,  we will go for another walk in a different trail looking always for  more wildlife and things to discover in a real virgin forest, it will probably take us around 3 hours walking and at the end we will stop at the research station to know more about the volunteers who work in this project since 1989. Around noon we will take our boat and get our lunch in the way back to our lodge. At night, if you want we can make fire and talk about the local stories from local people at Tambopata.
  • Return to the lodge or camping if you prefer. Sleep at Collpas Tambopata Inn or camping at TRC (B, L, D)

Day 4: Jungle walk to the mammal clay lick in the Tambopata Reserve

  • This five to eight kilometer trail covers the prototypical rain forest with immense trees crisscrossed by creeks and ponds. Amongst the figs, ceibas, and shihuahuacos we will go for the mammal clay lick …Squirrel, Brown Capuchin, and red howler Monkeys as well as peccaries. Collpas Tambopata Inn is located within this habitat.
  • Your guide will explain to you every little detail of survivol tips if you ever get lost in the amazon rain forest.
  • GO FOR FISHING : The waters of Tambopata River offers us a variety of fishes such as Payaras, Pacu (Giant Piranha), Catfish (Zungaros, Piros, Surubim, etc.) We usually fish for 2 hours in our third afternoon, with our local methots we always have really good chances to catch some. If you want to go for piranhas we are happy to do it.
  • Sleep at Collpas Tambopata Inn or camping at TRC (B, L, D)

Day 5: Sandoval Lake and THANK YOU!!!

  • Back to Puerto Maldonado, Tambopata Hostel for Breakfast, , once you are ready we will move to the main port of the city to begin another cruise within the reserve, this time our destination is the famous and beautiful Sandoval Lake.
  • This is an oxbow lake in Tambopata national reserve. After approximately 40 minutes by boat, we started a 3 km hike through the forest until you reach the shore of the Lake. Since starting our tour we will visit this beautiful body of water, the place is spectacular, many birds, very good opportunity to see a lots of monkeys of several species such as the red howler monkey, brown capuchin, squirrel monkey, dusky tity and saddle back tamarin.
  • Gian river otters 40% of chances to see them. Lunch at the edge of the Lake.
  • It is time to say goodbye, as the expedition comes to an end.
  • Your visit will make a direct contribution to Wired Amazon and the National Reserve of Tambopata.
  • You will take the journey back to the city to the bus station or airport for your national flight onwards . B & L
